A legacy of excellence

The Patrick Villaflores Award, named in honor of PSU Kaibigan’s founding President, is the highest form of recognition awarded to an alumni by the PSU Kaibigan Alumni Advisory Board. Inaugurated during the 10th anniversary of PSU Kaibigan in 2013, the award will be given every year to an alumni who has achieved remarkable success, distinction and recognition.

Patrick Villaflores

Patrick Villaflores was the founding-President of PSU Kaibigan. Instrumental in developing PSU Kaibigan’s core mission of uniting and empowering Filipino American students at PSU, Patrick has been a tireless champion of advancing the educational, cultural, political, and social development of Filipino students through collective organizing towards social justice and social change. Holding numerous leadership positions in Kaibigan starting in 2003 when he, along with his best friend, Cheryll Fernandez, started the organization, Patrick has shaped PSU Kaibigan into one of the most active and respected student organizations in the Northwest that represents the voice of Filipino American youth. From the annual “Pilipino Cultural Night” to our Dalawang Dekada 20th anniversary campaign, Patrick has been a driving force in forming initiatives, building community collaborations, and catalyzing change in serving Filipino American students.

For over a decade, Patrick has inspired, mentored, and molded a generation of student organizers and leaders, myself included, that have long worked in advancing PSU Kaibigan’s mission and vision. A tireless advocate for Filipino American youth, Patrick has left a legacy that supports the development of Filipino American students while enhancing diversity on the PSU campus.

In one of Kenneth’s nominations, the nominator wrote: “I cannot think of a PSU Kaibigan alumnus as deserving of this recognition as Kenneth Crebillo.

There is no question the generation of Filipino American students that he inspired as they followed his example and later became leaders of PSU Kaibigan and the vibrant Filipino American activism across the Pacific Northwest.”
